Nur knapp vier Jahre nach seiner Ernennung zum CFN-Nachwuchsgruppenleiter für Molekularstrahlepitaxie erhielt Dr. Daniel Schaadt einen Ruf an die Technische Universität (TU) Clausthal. In den vergangenen Jahren konzentrierte sich die Gruppe Schaadt auf die Optimierung nanoskaliger Materialien und Bauteile für Spintronik, Detektoren und Photovoltaik. |

Dritte Dimension gezielter Zellkultivierung realisiert Forschern des DFG-Centrums für Funktionelle Nanostrukturen (CFN) ist es gelungen, gezielt Zellen auf dreidimensionalen Strukturen zu kultivieren. Das Faszinierende dabei: Den Zellen werden Mikrometer kleine "Griffe" am Gerüst angeboten, an denen sie anhaften können - und zwar nur an diesen, am restlichen Gerüst finden sie keinen Halt. Dadurch wird die Zellhaftung und somit die Zellform erstmalig präzise in 3D beeinflusst. |

Nanostructures Do the Twist Dr. Michael Thiel was granted the KIT PhD Award in the competence area “Matter and Materials” for his work at the Institute of Applied Physics and the CFN. His PhD thesis covers the “Design, Production, and Characterization of Three-dimensional Chiral Photonic Crystals”. Using the technic of “direct laser writing” he produced different photonic crystals with “a sense of rotation” and studied their fundamental interactions with polarized light. |

Nanostrukturen haben den richtigen Dreh raus Dr. Michael Thiel erhielt für seine Dissertation "Design, Herstellung und Charakterisierung dreidimensionaler chiraler Photonischer Kristalle" den KIT-Doktorandenpreis im Kompetenzbereich "Materie und Materialien". Mithilfe der Technik des Direkten Laserschreibens erzeugte er unterschiedliche photonische Kristalle "mit Drehsinn" und studierte deren fundamentale Wechselwirkungen mit Polarisiertem Licht. |

Ustinov will use the grant to set up a research laboratory at the renowned National University of Science and Technology “MISIS” in Moscow.
